Saaremaa’s Auriga Keskus, which is a part of Summus Capital’s portfolio and recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, received the Saare County Green Technology Implementer of the Year 2023 award, due to its contribution to achieving sustainable development goals at the local level.

The award, which recognized Auriga Keskus’ commitment to the adoption of green technology, was a highlight of the weekend’s 15th anniversary celebrations. The award recognizes the center’s significant progress in environmental conservation, including initiatives in renewable energy, waste reduction and water conservation. The achievement is further emphasized by the recent acquisition of the BREEAM In-Use certificate at the “GOOD” level, an internationally recognized standard for building sustainability.

“We are extremely proud of what Auriga Keskus has achieved in these 15 years, and even more so of this latest recognition,” said Hannes Pihl, member of the board of Summus Capital. “The BREEAM In-Use certificate and the Green Technology Award are proof of our commitment to environmental excellence and sustainable community development.”

Notable environmental measures at the Auriga Center include the use of low-flow water fixtures, extensive waste sorting and recycling programs, and the use of sustainable building materials. These initiatives contribute to the center’s small carbon footprint, underscoring the center’s position as a regional leader in green business practices.

According to Pihl, Auriga Keskus has set its sights even higher: “Our next goal is to raise our current BREEAM “GOOD” level to the “VERY GOOD” level. We believe that environmentally friendly business is the future and we have set our goals accordingly.”
